Consolidated Newsrack Program

The Bureau of Street Use and Mapping (BSM) in the Department of Public Works is currently working to pilot the replacement of existing newsracks in the Downtown and Fisherman's Wharf areas with consolidated racks. Once the pilot phase is completed at the end of 2006, the Program will begin making replacements along other major thoroughfares and neighborhood shopping streets. The Livable City Initiative is working in partnership with BSM to develop a coordinated approach for this second phase that would include Community Benefits Districts (CBDs), Great Streets projects, and other neighborhood commercial corridors.
